Nunavut - The Frozen North

The very recently discovered province located towards the north of Canada is Nunavut where the population of polar bears is the largest. Since this region has been discovered, people have been under a misconception that Nunavut faces extreme winter season for most part of the year which is actually not true. July and August is the most apt for vacationing as tourists have the privilege of indulging in a variety of outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, hiking, hunting including an opportunity to watch different kinds of whales found in the white waters of this region. Spring season in Nunavut normally lasts from March to June, one can expect a temperature from anywhere between -20° to -1°, while winter season starts from September and reaches its peak in October. Although this territory does not attract a lot of tourists due to its extreme climatic conditions, it is always recommended to visit Nunavut during the summer and spring Season which could give you more opportunities to explore the territory and enjoy your holiday. The locals of this area are well known as Eskimos. Hamlet Celebrations are held during the spring and summer season. Nunavut has three regions namely the Baffin, Kivalliq & Kitkmeot. Iqaluit being the capital of Nunavut is also considered as the city with most population. The climatic condition of Iqaluit is a lot better than the other regions of Nunavut. Travelling to Nunavut can be difficult due to the fact that there are no road or rail routes connected from southern Canada to Nunavut which leaves airplane as the only source for transportation. Flights to Nunavut are accessible through Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal and Ottawa. The locals use snowmobile for conducting most of their transportation needs, while fishing and hunting constitutes the main source for their survival.

One can find whales, seals, walrus, arctic char, and caribou in plenty in Nunavut. It is mandatory for visitors and tourists to register all the information relating to their accommodation plans with the RCMP, in case they want to undertake their trip on their own. Tourists are also recommended to be very careful while travelling outdoors, due to the fact that this region has the largest population of Polar bears. This territory has 3 time zones namely Eastern, Central and Mountain Standard Time respectively.
