The very recently discovered province located towards the north of Canada is
Nunavut where the population of polar bears is the largest. Since this region
has been discovered, people have been under a misconception that Nunavut faces
extreme winter season for most part of the year which is actually not true. July
and August is the most apt for vacationing as tourists have the privilege of
indulging in a variety of outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, hiking,
hunting including an opportunity to watch different kinds of whales found in the
white waters of this region. Spring season in Nunavut normally lasts from March
to June, one can expect a temperature from anywhere between -20° to -1°, while
winter season starts from September and reaches its peak in October. Although
this territory does not attract a lot of tourists due to its extreme climatic
conditions, it is always recommended to visit Nunavut during the summer and
spring Season which could give you more opportunities to explore the territory
and enjoy your holiday. The locals of this area are well known as Eskimos.
Hamlet Celebrations are held during the spring and summer season. Nunavut has
three regions namely the Baffin, Kivalliq & Kitkmeot. Each of these regions
has their own lifestyle and communities. Baffin Island is the most visited
region by the tourists especially to experience the thrill of Adventure
Travel.
Iqaluit being the capital of Nunavut is also considered as the
city with most population. The climatic condition of Iqaluit is a lot better
than the other regions of Nunavut. Travelling to Nunavut can be difficult due to
the fact that there are no road or rail routes connected from southern Canada to
Nunavut which leaves airplane as the only source for transportation. Flights to
Nunavut are accessible through Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal
and Ottawa. The locals use snowmobile for conducting most of their
transportation needs, while fishing and hunting constitutes the main source for
their survival.
One can find whales, seals, walrus, arctic char, and
caribou in plenty in Nunavut. It is mandatory for visitors and tourists to
register all the information relating to their accommodation plans with the
RCMP, in case they want to undertake their trip on their own. Tourists are also
recommended to be very careful while travelling outdoors, due to the fact that
this region has the largest population of Polar bears. This territory has 3 time
zones namely Eastern, Central and Mountain Standard Time respectively.
